Words: Saam Das
Considering her artist description last year (either sarcastically or arrogantly) was "why the fuck am I unsigned?", Saint Saviour must be pleased to have finally found herself a deal as AEG Live's first ever signing. To celebrate the news and to give us a hint of her newly announced debut album, 'Union', due out in the summer.
Saint Saviour is the guise of one Becky Jones, who has collaborated with Groove Armada in the past, and has been forging her own path for quite some time now. Mixing (oft orchestral) multi-layered production with her empowered voice, Saint Saviour shares similarities in style with I Am Harlequin - whose record deal is also overdue.
Free download 'Fight' begins in a pleasing contemporary classical style before the striking female vocals appear. Much like the sunlight breaking through the treeline at dawn. A cloud of serenity falls, with more and more sounds added as the song progresses. It's a bit Enya meets Zola Jesus. Check out her barrage of material on Soundcloud, where you can also download the M83 cover I've embedded below.
