Surfacing: Daddy's Long Leg [New Act]

Last year's abrupt disbandment of splendid experimental pop purveyors Mammal Club was a bit of a body blow - they seemingly had much more to offer. As is often the case, the band's members have started their own projects, and here's the debut track from Wilson Astley, aka Daddy's Long Leg.

Dubious name aside, this is the first original new material from Astley - continuing in a similar vein to his excellent previous work. (He also recorded a Sparks cover of 'When Do I Get To Sing 'My Way'?' as SUPERYONIC earlier in the year.) 'Aboard' reflects the melodrama and upheaval of the end of Mammal Club amid strained vocals and multi-layered instrumentation. I'm as much lost in the lyrics as I am in the curious magic of Astley's music.
