New Noise: Converse "All Stars"

"All year long we wait for sun...." sings Bethany Cosentino (of the deservedly hyped Best Coast) in this "all star" jam, arranged by popular shoe manufacturer Converse.

'All Summer' combines the talents of the aforementioned Miss Cosentino as well as rapper Kid Cudi and a bloke I'm really rather fond of - Mr Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend. The latter figure is wonderfully talented (for supporting evidence, consult his original version of Vampire Weekend's 'Campus') and I look forward to his solo escapades as Boys Like Us in the future.

Admittedly, I don't yearn for the sun as claimed in the opening line of 'All Summer'. But I do yearn for summer pop fun. And 'All Summer' provides an ethereal take on a summer pop anthem. Apart from the ridiculously bouncy chorus, with its infectious chugging guitar line. Which I really love, perhaps because of its simplicity. Not too fussed about Kid Cudi's rapping but it's actually probably what takes this from a pretty good song to a PRETTY GREAT song.

There's also a nice (if sadly, all too brief) insight into how the three artists combined in the studio on YouTube.
