The Olympics is upon us. We're actually already two days into proceedings but tonight sees the official Opening Ceremony of the Games take place. I am quite excited. Many other Londoners aren't. Perhaps Delphic's stupendous electro-pop Olympic anthem, 'Good Life', will shake the naysayers into suitable euphoria.
Despite being talked up as one of the hype acts of the last couple of years, placing third in the BBC Sound Of 2010, Manchester's Delphic never quite hit the heights. Their debut album, 'Acolyte', did admittedly reach #8 in the UK album chart but its singles barely charted, even the stand-out 'Doubt'.
'Good Life' tones down the melodrama, instead diving wholeheartedly into Passion Pit-esque exuberance. It's a move that I expect will paid dividends, hopefully signalling a slightly different direction for the forthcoming new album. If not, then at least we have a terrific Olympic anthem - one of five on offer, we also rather like the Chemical Brothers effort.
