I've never been one of those people who think that a cover detracts from its original. Regardless of which side of the fence you fall, it is worth listening to the cover I'm featuring today - Londoners Winterhours' melancholic take on 'A Real Hero', originally from the evocative 'Drive' soundtrack.

Like many, we were pretty taken aback by Nicholas Winding Refn's stylish drama - Alicia FG, in particular, was a huge fan. We consequently placed 'Drive' as our top film of 2011. Its incredible electronic soundtrack very much helped contribute to that position, and I've previously highlighted my love for the film's main theme/motif - 'A Real Hero' by College featuring Electric Youth.

Winterhours approach it from a different angle, reducing the electronic aspects from the outset - transferring the initial synth melody to traditional piano. This move, combined with Alex Dunne's emotive vocals, give the song a progressively melancholic feel. The band release new single 'Ocean Heart' in January 2013, listen to it below.
