Send me more cds please

on Monday, March 05, 2007
Last week I was lucky enough to get a couple of promo cds through the posts (courtesy of Alistair from High Voltage or at least his work experience monkey), so I thought I'd tell you a bit about my bounty. And encourage people to send me more cds or mp3s, details for where to send what are in my sidebar (---->).

Polytechnic - Cold Hearted Business

With an NME single of the week, two releases on the influential Transgressive Records label and support slots with Doves and Keane already under their belt, you'd expect the Manchester five piece to have achieved more commercial success than they've garnered so far. 'Cold Hearted Business' gives us an idea of what a British Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! would sound like. A jangly, exceedingly pop affair with oohs AND aahs. Not to mention handclaps. Fantastic. With former single 'Man Overboard' recalling Dresden Dolls with its sweeping piano, it's an exciting prospect to discover which direction Polytechnic have taken on their forthcoming LP 'Down Till Dawn'.

The Black Ghosts - Anyway You Choose To Give It

Simon of the now defunct Simian's (you know..."here comes la breeze" from the car advert) latest venture is a two piece electro pop outfit. Along with Theo Black Ghost, he has crafted a pulsating, sexually charged fervour with new single 'Anyway You Choose To Give It'. Getting Manchester's flavour of the month The Whip to do a remix is inspired with the result being a more jagged, despairing effort yet nonetheless retaining the dancefloor vibe. I'm sure you'll hear plenty more about both these bands soon.

'Anyway You Choose To Give It' is out on Southern Fried Records from 2nd April.
