I must admit the Ultraísta project passed me by until I heard of their London show this weekend. Headed by Laura Bettinson (formerly of Dimbleby & Capper), and producers Joey Waronker and Nigel Godrich, Ultraísta released their debut album last week. Listen to the hypnotic 'Bad Insect' below to get an idea of their experimental sounds.
The project is an amalgamation of the more pop inclined Bettinson, and the pulsating electronic rhythms of Waronker and Godrich. (The latter two also play together in Thom Yorke's Atoms For Peace.) 'Bad Insect' is arguably their finest effort, probably their most accessible track thus far and understandably the first single - Animal Collective-esque experimental pop, layered with soothing vocals. Watch the suitably trippy video below.
There's a touch of Four Tet about 'Bad Insect', and lo and behold, he has done a remix of another of Ultraísta's tracks - 'Smalltalk'. Madcap/visionary film director David Lynch has also offered up a remix of 'Strange Formula' but the less said about that, the better.
'Ultraísta' will be physically released on 15th Oct, pre-order at amazon.co.uk. Find more info at ultraista.co.uk.
