'There Will Be Blood' (2007)

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Dano, Kevin J O'Connor

SYNOPSIS: "Oscar-winning American epic directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, set in early 20th-century Texas. Daniel Day Lewis plays oilman Daniel Plainview, a shrewd, self-made tycoon who will stop at nothing to expand his control of the developing oil industry - despite eliciting contempt from his nemesis, local preacher Eli Sunday." (bbc.co.uk)

An outstandingly acclaimed film, chosen by several critics as the finest film of the decade, 'There Will Be Blood' was nominated for eight Academy Awards. Indeed, it should have been awarded a ninth nomination for Jonny Greenwood's disconcerting, experimental score which was unfortunately barred due to using excerpts of his previous compositional work on 'Bodysong'.

Anyway, enough of the self-plagiarism nonsense, PT Anderson's loose adaptation of Upton Sinclair's novel 'Oil!' features immense performances from Daniel Day-Lewis as the oil prospector whose life unravels once he comes against Paul Dano's preacher.

Perhaps over-rated. Perhaps over-hyped. But a must-see nonetheless. And yes, there is blood.
