There is beauty in simplicity. From the opening bars of understated piano melody and its opening lyrical salvo of "you're a revelation", it's a challenge not to be moved by the emotion-fuelled 'Revelation'. The team up between South African pop sensation Troye Sivan and Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi is for new film 'Boy Erased', which features an incredible cast including Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, and indeed, Sivan himself.

Written and directed by Golden Globe-nominated actor Joel Edgerton, the drama stars Lucas Hedges as a teen forced to undergo gay conversion therapy by his Baptist parents. The choice therefore to have Jonsi (who continues his path into the world of film music, following the likes of 'We Bought A Zoo' and the 'How To Train Your Dragon' animations) and Troye Sivan on the soundtrack feels particularly deliberate and appropriate, with both musicians being openly gay.

Worlds away from Sivan's recent collab with Charli XCX on the playful '1999', 'Revelation' is deeply affecting, driven by delicate piano notes and a sombre vocal delivery. Jonsi's characteristic rousing nature is never too distant on the track, but understandably, there is a sense of restraint on 'Revelation'.

It's a special track (maybe even Best Original Song Oscar-worthy) to remind you that we're all special in our own ways. Check out the lyric video below, which intersperses clips from 'Boy Erased' and sadly reminds us that over 70,000 people are currently held in gay conversion therapies across America. The film is out in select cinemas in the US now, and is scheduled for a UK release in February 2019.
