Surfacing: FOE

Hannah Clark's old band Arthur started off as a fairly cutesy infectious pop band before slowly descending into darker, Elle Milano inspired territory. She'd started off a solo venture as Hannah Shark but now her musical transformation continues in a new guise, FOE. Or is it meant to be F O E? Sod it, let's just move on.

While Arthur went sadly underappreciated by most, FOE seems to be building up a head of steam. You know how MySpace have that genre category called "Melodramatic Pop Song". Well, this is probably one of the few times where that label seems appropriate.

As you'll see with the two tracks I'm sharing, FOE has a lot to offer. 'Tyran Song' is full of menace, almost a grungey parallel take of Justice's 'Stress' whereas 'Tiny Ambulance' is a bit like a discordant Kate Bush but still retaining that sense of otherworldly magic.

There's plenty here to get excited about. Especially if you're a PJ Harvey fan. I suggest you explore FOE's Soundcloud with immediate effect and check out two other tracks. Bewitching.

If you're in Brighton for The Great Escape then I strongly suggest checking out FOE live at the Hi, Honey (Jamila Fucking Dance*** and Jehan Shattered Satellite are some of the brains behind the operation) club night tomorrow at The Pav Tav, from 10pm. That's Thursday May 13th.

*** Jamila also very graciously namechecked me as one of her inspirations for blogging on the latest edition of the Hype Machine Radio. Cheers Jamila, means a lot to me.

Here's a link to it on Soundcloud where you can head to just after the 27 min mark to hear Jamila's interview. If you don't already read her blog, you're missing out.
