Surfacing: The Vaccines

I was extremely apprehensive about Jay Jay Pistolet's new band The Vaccines as I noted in the comments on the post over at A New Band A Day. While 'If You Wanna' showed plenty of promise, I've been burnt in the past by many a band, who have promised so much with one good/great track and fallen to the wayside almost immediately. I'm looking at you, Black Kids.

However, The Vaccines have now announced their new single and previewed both sides of the single. A-side 'Wreckin Bar (Ra Ra Ra)' lasts about 84 seconds. Consequently, it's riotous, ramshackle and ruddy amazing. Remember those good times you had in the blissful sunshine this summer? You definitely will after listening to 'Wreckin Bar (Ra Ra Ra)'. Lo-fi B-side 'Blow It Up' is a bit longer and a bit less good but remains a pleasant contrast to the warm fuzz and giddy excitement of the A-side.

The Vaccines played a free show in London tonight, which I hear was totally rammed and somewhat more exclusive than initially expected. Still, I imagine you'll be hearing some more positive murmurings about this band over the next few days.
