Words: Saam Das
About a year ago, I first wrote about Toronto band Bravestation, having seen them live at at their debut UK gig. I compared them to Foals and Yeasayer, also noting that "I wouldn't be surprised if they match their contemporaries when the album eventually drops." Well, that album is soon to drop, and you can listen to a couple of tracks from it below.
The debut Bravestation album is entitled 'Giants & Dreamers', and two tracks are available to download from the record already - 'Tides Of The Summit' and 'Signs Of The Civilized'. Both share the experimental pop vibe of yesteryear, with Yeasayer acting as a continued influence. The latter track just edges it for us at the moment but you can download both at Bandcamp.
'Signs Of The Civilized' kicks off in an unexpectedly hip hop fashion, dropping heavy beats, before their self-diagnosed tribal pop slowly but gloriously takes over. A swirling, shimmering gem. On the evidence of the new tracks, we've still got the same high expectations of the album that we had a year ago. Listen to 'Signs Of The Civilized' below, or watch the embedded video.
'Giants & Dreamers' is scheduled for a July 10th release. Find more info at facebook.com/Bravestation .
