I was a bit disappointed when Seerauber Jenny split, following what appears to have been a slightly acrimonious dispute between members Fran Barker and Neil Claxton. The upside is that the dissolution of that outfit has given Claxton more time to concentrate on his more eletronic Mint Royale moniker. His majestic latest effort brings one of Hollywood's finest, Willem Dafoe, onboard in a spoken word role - a great start to the New Year.
You probably remember Mint Royale for their iconic 'Singin' In The Rain' remix, with its similarly remixed footage that proved quite popular. As car adverts go, anyway. 'Ring' is more of a relaxed track, with some well-placed strings, albeit stepping through some gloriously glitchy gears from time to time. With Dafoe's monologue and film background, the obvious comparison is to Baz Luhrmann's 'Everybody Free (To Wear Sunscreen)'. Forget that song, the past, this is the future.
