Listen: Arthur Beatrice - Charity/Not Without Thinking [New Single]

on Monday, September 03, 2012
Words: Jack Thomson

Orlando Leopard (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards, organ), Ella Girardot (lead vocals, keyboards, organ), Elliot Barnes (drums, backing vocals) and Hamish Barnes (bass, backing vocals) are Arthur Beatrice. Having gained a fair amount of blog exposure with the release of their debut single 'Midland' back in March, the London-based band are back with their new single 'Charity'. Listen to it below, along with b-side 'Not Without Thinking'.

The A-side is a mid-tempo track that sees Orlando take the lions-share of the vocals. The song has an ethereal feel to it with delicate instrumentation, allowing the story to unfold with a surprising darkness in the chorus; "Let them all suffer for you / Evil one, evil one”. The track is good, and a definite reason to keep following the band over the coming months, but it is the B-side that really caught my attention.

'Not Without Thinking' is a more upbeat song with Ella this time taking the lead, and her voice is absolutely stunning to say the least. Much like debut single 'Midland', the track is sophisticated, intelligent pop music, full of well thought out instrumentation and haunting vocals.  It is this track that makes me feel more confident saying we can expect big things from this band in the next year or so.
