Last night, BBC 6Music hosted a special show, in conjunction with The Hype Machine, to highlight the 25 most blogged artists that have appeared on UK blogs over 2012. DJ Tom Robinson was at the helm and kindly gave us a shout out during the poll. (Which revealed AlunaGeorge as the most blogged artist). We're here to return the favour as he has put us onto anthemic Northern Irish quartet Eatenbybears.

The band appeared on one of Robinson's mixtapes for his Introducing show last month but they have been around for a couple of years now. Recognition both inside and outside of their native land has been fairly sporadic, although people like Chris at Metaphorical Boat have been strong supporters.

'Simple As Hell' was the track that caught my ear through Tom's podcast, and it's the obvious standout from the Eatenbybears genre-defying back catalogue - the band journey through electro, math-rock and afro-pop with remarkable cohesion. Certainly, 'Simple As Hell' is some kind of brilliant afro-electro-pop odyssey.

Most recent track 'Your Pet Is Dead' goes to a darker place, even applying hip hop and psychedelic influences. Their underlying anthemic nature pleasantly bubbles to the surface though. Download the track for free below, and listen to 'Simple As Hell'. Dare I call Eatenbybears the most exciting band in Belfast right now? I dare, indeed.
