'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay' (Part One) comes out in cinemas next week, and as part of the promo cycle, we've been hearing cuts from the Lorde-curated soundtrack - including efforts from CHVRCHES and Major Lazer. My favourite track thus far is the Charli XCX and Simon Le Bon piano-driven collab, 'Kingdom', which you can hear below.
Taking a very different compositional turn to her recent tracks, Charli XCX teamed up with Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij on 'Kingdom', and his influence is clear - from the luxuriant piano melodies to the glorious strings, the latter evoking memories of his wondrous version of VW classic 'Campus'. Batmanglij's production is backed up by surprisingly tender vocals from Charli XCX, themselves supplanted by an apperance from Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon.
