We recently introduced you to the latest musical efforts of former Hot Club de Paris main man, Paul Rafferty, and his unusually titled Doomshakalaka project. Having taken the bold move of unveiling his new guise with a six-minutes-plus opening gambit in the form of the intriguing 'Black Balloons', he opts for a somewhat more conventional path this time with the metronomic 'James Asleep', celebrating the announcement of his self-titled debut album.

Sharing a similar nostalgia-driven guitar sound as its predecessor, there's something nursery rhyme-esque about the manner in which the lyrics of 'James Asleep' jaunt along - perhaps a tad surprising then that the next song on the album is cheerily entitled, 'I'll Kill You, Motherfucker'. Standard.

Little surprise, however, on the evidence of these first couple of Doomshakalaka tracks that the brilliant Moshi Moshi Records is putting out the album, who released breakthrough efforts from the likes of Florence And The Machine and The Drums. Not forgetting to mention, of course, their successful relationship with Rafferty's old band Hot Club de Paris, who saw their three albums come out on the label.
