We only recently found out Sophie Payten aka Aussie musician Gordi is a qualified medical doctor, who has stepped back into her duties as a result of the global pandemic. And that’s on top of her incredible work as a solo artist. It’s unreal how talented some people are, as can be seen on the a02Sk mix of her brilliant latest release ‘Unready’.

Attention may be starting to move towards the best tracks of 2018 thus far, but we thought that before entertaining that option, we'd look back at some of the best songs you might have missed from 2017. Stellar tracks like 'Don't Kill My Vibe' from new Scandi star Sigrid and 'Love' from the evergreen Lana Del Rey could have appeared but their popularity means that we've decided to focus on some potentially overlooked gems instead.

Now firmly established as one of London's finest one-day festivals, the Communion Records-run Bushstock once again descends on Shepherd's Bush. The festival typically has a strong dedication to new music, much like the mid-noughties clubnights that spawned the Communion brand, previously featuring on-the-rise acts such as Bastille and Daughter before they hit big. We've highlighted a few of our choice bands from the 2017 line up below:
