'There Will Be Blood' (2007)

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Dano, Kevin J O'Connor

SYNOPSIS: "Oscar-winning American epic directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, set in early 20th-century Texas. Daniel Day Lewis plays oilman Daniel Plainview, a shrewd, self-made tycoon who will stop at nothing to expand his control of the developing oil industry - despite eliciting contempt from his nemesis, local preacher Eli Sunday." (

An outstandingly acclaimed film, chosen by several critics as the finest film of the decade, 'There Will Be Blood' was nominated for eight Academy Awards. Indeed, it should have been awarded a ninth nomination for Jonny Greenwood's disconcerting, experimental score which was unfortunately barred due to using excerpts of his previous compositional work on 'Bodysong'.

Anyway, enough of the self-plagiarism nonsense, PT Anderson's loose adaptation of Upton Sinclair's novel 'Oil!' features immense performances from Daniel Day-Lewis as the oil prospector whose life unravels once he comes against Paul Dano's preacher.

Perhaps over-rated. Perhaps over-hyped. But a must-see nonetheless. And yes, there is blood.
