'Vomit' is the first taster from Girls sophomore effort, 'Father, Son, Holy Ghost'. It’s a remarkable song, a three-part opus with each section being constructed around a single lyric. This epic of a song builds effortlessly towards its thrilling climax, with Girls demonstrating they are not overreaching themselves with their ambitions.
In the hands of lesser bands, this song would have been a mess. Thrown into the mix are fuzzy distortion, electric organs, gospel wails yet all these elements are fused together to create something truly brilliant. Indeed, when the gospel singer joins the lead vocals singing "Come into my heart, my love", resistance is futile as it’s nigh on impossible not be overcome by the emotional impact of the song.
This is the best song I’ve heard this year – if this track is a true reflection of what’s to come with their second album, Girls might well just have a classic on their hands.
