It was a bit of a surprise earlier in the year when it was announced that Scottish critical darlings Frightened Rabbit had signed to Atlantic Records. So far, so good though, and we're excited for their fourth studio album, 'Pedestrian Verse', due out in February. New track 'The Woodpile' suggests that their special brand of melancholia is as strong as ever.

The track follows soon after the impressive 'State Hospital' EP, and another track from the forthcoming album, 'Dead Now'. Both 'Dead Now' and 'The Woodpile' have raised our expectations for the new Frightened Rabbit album, following the dip in form that was 'The Winter Of Mixed Drinks'.

The insecurity ("there's something wrong with me") of 'Dead Now' and its warm backing vocal hooks provide a peculiar sense of comfort for the listener, while 'The Woodpile' is more striking and rousing. The latter comes with a suitably engrossing video to match - filmed in one continuous shot. Frightened Rabbit are well on their way to deserved world domination.

'Pedestrian Verse' is scheduled for release in February 2013. Find more info at frightenedrabbit.com.
