I wasn't quite expecting The Strokes to pop up this evening with a free new track. Others might have been a bit more expectant considering recent news that the band have been working on their fifth studio album. Either way, 'One Way Trigger' is something of a surprise.
The new track has that characteristic jerky guitar sound but draped in synths, as if A-ha were covering The Killers or some such. The vocal style is also nuanced - moving in and out of falsetto, in an initially disconcerting fashion. We're slowly warming to it though, and if you're fan then you can pick up the song for the price of your email address.
