Having put out music together since the mid-2010s, Dylan Brady and Laura Les encountered a paradigm shift last year for their 100 gecs project. Their experimental pop delivered one of the best albums of 2019 in an exhilarating 23 minute ride. One of the masterpieces of the '1000 gecs' album was the particularly poppy 'Ringtone', which has had the remix treatment from a golden trio - Kero Kero Bonito, Rico Nasty, and Charli XCX.
There's something of a PC Music vibe to the work of 100 gecs, and it's little surprise then that A.G. Cook also completed a remix for the duo - forming a Venn diagram of sorts with Charli XCX, who has worked with both Cook and Brady previously. This latest meeting of minds is a fantastic twist on the deliriously brilliant original version, with much the same verve, as the vocalists deftly move through their sections pass-the-parcel style.
The track is due to appear on a forthcoming remix album '1000 gecs & The Tree Of Clues', née '1000 gecs & th3 phant0m m3nac3'. (Presumably Disney weren't too impressed.)
