Festival Review: The Great Escape 2014 (Day Two - Friday)

The Great Escape Festival (8-10 May, Brighton) // Words: Saam Das

Following our exploits on day one at The Great Escape, we returned to windswept Brighton with renewed vigour. On day two, we took in more of The Alternative Escape, the set of unofficial gigs which runs concurrently with the main festival - providing even more exciting, new bands to catch.

One of our musical highlights of 2013 was catching the stadium pop of Sons And Lovers in the grandiose Kings Theatre at Southsea Fest. 2014 looks a likely candidate to be dominated by the band, especially with soaring anthems of the calibre of 'Golden' - watch a special live recording of the track below.

In what I'd like to term as a collision of two of 2014 ones to watch, producer Draper has twisted Sons & Lovers's 'Ghosts' in his own dance-based image. Pretty apt for a Friday night. Or any night really.

The accolade for probably my favourite act at the recent Southsea Fest goes to the stadium pop vibes of Sons & Lovers. They certainly thrived in the grandiose setting of the Kings Theatre, with their huge hooks and catchy choruses. New track 'Ghosts' is an excellent example of their anthemic fare, and we've also got a LOVELIFE remix of the track to share.
