Surfacing: Bravestation

I'd heard Toronto band Bravestation last year but they didn't quite grab me enough at the time to write about them. There was definitely something about the band though so the other night I popped along to their debut UK show, promoted by the good folk at Laissez Faire Club. I was greeted by a set full of compelling experimental pop.

The band have been going for quite sometime across the pond but are yet to make much of an impression in the UK. Their string of UK dates over the next month or so may well change that. Considering their humble attitudes - I'm not sure I've ever seen a band thank the sound guy mid-set - I certainly hope they can make some waves.

Speaking of waves, their music has something of a fluidity - leading to comparison to latter day Foals and Yeasayer. With both those bands producing impressive albums in recent times, it'll soon be Bravestation's turn. And following their '2010 EP' (downloadable for free at Bandcamp), I wouldn't be surprised if they match their contemporaries when the album eventually drops.
