Remixed: Alpines - Empire (CREEP Remix)

Remixed is a column that will highlight remixes we actually think are worthy of praise, be they old or new. Because most remixes are rubbish. // Words: Saam Das

It appears that the cinematic night-pop of London duo Alpines lends itself to intriguing remixes - around this time last year we had Skream remixing 'Drive', and now we have hip New York production duo CREEP adding their mystical touch to 'Empire'. Listen to the single version and its remix below.

You may remember CREEP from their compelling debut single, 'Days', which featured Romy from The xx. Their work here may well have superceded any past offerings. We recently called 'Empire' a "gloriously confident concoction" of "piercing vocals and epic instrumentation". CREEP throw in pervasive strings and a pulsating drumbeat, constructing an astounding piece of melodramatic pop - matching the likes of Purity Ring.

The Alpines single is now available on limited edition 7" vinyl, a long time coming since we first posted about it in November 2010. The single is also released in digital form, with a Maribou State remix on the flipside. But we prefer the CREEP remix, which you can download for free below, if you register with RCRD LBL.
