When it comes to new year tips/ones to watch lists, there are generally three types of onlookers - the ones who eagerly proffer their own tips, ones who just don't care and those that consider such lists as an affront to music. At FADED GLAMOUR, we're very much in the first camp. But before looking forward, we're here to look back at last year's ones to watch.

Festival Review: The Great Escape (2012)

The Great Escape (10-12 May '12, Brighton) // Words: Saam Das

Unfortunately, my experience of The Great Escape was marred by a close family member passing away (thanks for all the messages of support) meaning that I spent much less time in Brighton than otherwise intended. But the time spent proved to be largely enjoyable, an appropriately great escape from my worldly worries. Indeed, I saw terrific performances, most notably from the majestic Oliver Tank and the much hyped HAIM, although failed to make it to any convention talks.

There are quite literally hundreds of bands playing at this year's The Great Escape, the self-confessed leading new music festival in Europe. With that in mind, we've narrowed down a list of just ten recommended acts to catch across the three days of the festival, as well as throwing in some more general tips seeing as this is the third time we've been down to Brighton. I've always wondered what it'd be like to have synaesthesia - a condition where you may, for example, see musical notes as different colours. Unfortunately I do not. But I imagine ethereal Australian producer Oliver Tank's music would resemble some sort of breathtaking rainbow. Hence why he is one of our musical tips for 2012. His debut EP, 'Dreams', is now out on vinyl and can be streamed in full below.

Sometimes you hear a track that stops you. In your tracks. 'Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion', the first track from the debut EP of Sydney-based producer Oliver Tank, was the revelation in question. Moreover, I'm extremely pleased to say that Mr Tank's thought-provoking electronica isn't just a one off.
