It's been a solid seven years since we first wrote about the entrancing work of Elena Tonra under the guise of Daughter. Three albums with bandmates Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella later, and she's returned to solo output. Listen to her debut track as Ex:Re, 'Romance', below.

The debut album from London trio Daughter was easily one of our most anticipated of the year - while it didn't quite meet our high expectations, it did offer some gems. The highlight of 'If You Leave' was perhaps 'Youth', a hauntingly reflective tale of past love, which now has its own video.

Daughter - 'If You Leave' (UK Release: 18 March '13) // Words: Saam Das

The stock of Daughter has risen considerably over the last couple of years, and their debut album, 'If You Leave', comes with considerable anticipation and expectation. Daughter have grown from simply being the musical moniker of Elena Tonra to a trio with a formidable reputation, both on record and live. 'If You Leave' is an assured debut, albeit one that is somewhat overbearing with its melancholy.

When it comes to new year tips/ones to watch lists, there are generally three types of onlookers - the ones who eagerly proffer their own tips, ones who just don't care and those that consider such lists as an affront to music. At FADED GLAMOUR, we're very much in the first camp. But before looking forward, we're here to look back at last year's ones to watch.

People tend to get a bit worked up about tips for [insert forthcoming year]/bands to watch, especially when the BBC Sound Of poll appears. For the most part, I quite enjoy it, and being invited to take part in the BBC Sound Of 2010 poll has probably been the pinnacle of my blogging career. For those looking for a variation on the theme, you can find the second annual Blog Sound Of 2013 longlist below.

What a difference 4 months can make. Daughter are now deservedly signed to a prominent independent label (4AD), they have collected sparkling reviews from selected festival appearances across the UK and US. Their newest release, 'Smother', signals the widening of Daughter’s catalogue of stunning alt-folk to flesh out an anticipated debut album.

Bushstock (Shepherd's Bush, 2 June '12) // Words: Saam Das & Raman K

Last Saturday, one side of London saw annual hipster extravaganza Field Day, while the other end of London saw annual multi-venue folk extravaganza Bushstock. It was double trouble in another sense as we took two writers to the latter festival, boldly going where no FG writer had gone before. Our adventure is recanted in full below.

Sundance London (02 Arena, 26-29 April '12) // Words: Saam Das

The widely acclaimed Sundance Festival makes its first appearance outside of its Utah home when it comes to London's O2 Arena this week. Bringing us a selection of features and shorts from American independent cinema as well as special musical performances and events, we're very excited to welcome Robert Redford and company to London. I've chosen a handful of films and musical events to recommend below.

Daughter live at Islington Assembly Hall (12 April '12) // Words: Raman K

We traipse around the nooks of London, week-to-week, searching out future sounds that’ll shape your next playlist. There is a real thrill in uncovering a new musician and showcasing them to you: the readers and eventual fanbase. Please believe then, that these next words do not come lightly: alt-folk-pop band, Daughter, boasts one of the most stunning live vocal experiences so far this decade and represents perhaps the brightest upcoming musical talent in Britain.

Part two of our bands to watch for the next ten months or so. Or longer? Part three to follow shortly. Part one comprised of Alabama Shakes, Alt-J, and BASTILLE - tipped by Emily Solan, Jack Thomson and myself respectively. Here, Emily Arc and Rajan Lakhani get some choices in. And me.

By the time this post goes up, I believe the oft-criticised BBC Sound Of poll will have its 2012 longlist published. The bitching has probably already begun. We'll be adding our thoughts at some point. In the meantime, I have contributed to an alternative poll of "ones to watch" for 2012 with a selection of UK bloggers. Our 15 act longlist is below, featuring the likes of The Good Natured and and BASTILLE.

The first Joe Bloggers gig fast approaches and we're honoured to be involved. Hopefully some of you reading this can make it down to Dingwalls in Camden and say hello to members of Team FG. And of course, Flying With Anna and The Blue Walrus too. To try to help you in that quest, we're giving away at least 2 tickets to the gig below. Maybe more if we're feeling generous, so enter away.

Daughter is better known to her family and friends as Elena Tonra, a 21 year old folk songstress, who is rapidly building praise in 2011 thanks to her entrancing live performances and magical recordings. Her debut EP as Daughter came out digitally earlier this month.
