Having expanded to a trio in 2015, electronic outfit CURXES announced a return earlier in 2017 with a streamlined guise - Roberta Fidora striking out on her own, and relocating to Ryde on the Isle of Wight for good measure. A new album is set to appear in late October, and the lead single has now been launched. Watch the Rob Luckins video to 'In Your Neighbourhood' below.

The Great Escape Festival @ venues across Brighton (14-16 May '15) // Words: Saam Das

"I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes...". WET. WET. WET. Within six minutes of getting off the train at Brighton station, I found myself bleeding from an umbrella battered by the inclement weather. Thankfully, things got better. And not just in terms of stemming blood loss. Camping out in the relatively arid Green Door Store, the combination of free pastries and the bouncy indie-pop of Toronto's HIGHS immediately raised spirits.

Alternative Escape across various venues in Brighton (13-16 May '15) // Words: Saam Das

We went to the very first edition of The Great Escape back in 2006. It was quite a limited affair, with not much on during the day for the average punter. That's changed greatly over the years, and the strand of the festival known as The Alternative Escape has really developed. With tickets now sold out for the main festival (preview of that here), The Alternative Escape is a great way for anyone to rock up to Brighton and see some top acts for very little, or even nothing at all.

South coasters CURXES have recently had a 50% increase in membership, from duo to trio, with the addition of Camille Phillips on drums. It's the latest step in a journey that will shortly see them release their debut album, which we're eagerly anticipating. Here's an edit of 'What You Want' from the forthcoming 'Verxes'.

It's been something of a quiet start to the year for South coast duo CURXES but they've returned with an unexpected comeback today, in the form of free download 'Further Still'. Its style is similarly unexpected, taking a significantly less dark/bombastic approach that the band are otherwise known for. A compelling change-up.

People tend to get a bit worked up about tips for [insert forthcoming year]/bands to watch, especially when the BBC Sound Of poll appears. For the most part, I quite enjoy it, and being invited to take part in the BBC Sound Of 2010 poll has probably been the pinnacle of my blogging career. For those looking for a variation on the theme, you can find the second annual Blog Sound Of 2013 longlist below.

Remixed is a column that will highlight remixes we actually think are worthy of praise, be they old or new. Because most remixes are rubbish. // Words: Saam Das

I can't say I've heard of Soil In The Synth before. Thankfully, my ignorance is limited in that respect as I'm much more familiar with CURXES, a South coast duo whose coming of age is encapsulated by their latest stormer of a single, 'Spectre'. Download the riot grrl-esque Soil In The Synth remix below.

Macauley Hopwood and Roberta Fidora are Brighton duo CURXES. They have a new single out next month. It's a bit good. Listen to the dark, melodramatic electro-pop of 'Spectre' below.

Brighton duo CURXES (pronounced Curses) have been on my radar for a considerable amount of time but their intense electro-pop had yet to completely click with me. Until today, that is. Their forthcoming new single 'Haunted Gold' has firmly impressed, and you can watch its new video below.
