Last year's abrupt disbandment of splendid experimental pop purveyors Mammal Club was a bit of a body blow - they seemingly had much more to offer. As is often the case, the band's members have started their own projects, and here's the debut track from Wilson Astley, aka Daddy's Long Leg.

I'd love to say that this isn't a goodbye. But sadly, it is. Last month, Mammal Club called it a day. Simply put, they weren't enjoying themselves enough to continue. Their parting gift is a song called 'Origami', embodying their giddy experimental pop style that will be missed.

We've been bigging up Mammal Club since October 2010, and this week they released a new single, 'Painting'. It's perhaps the most pop record they've created yet it still carries the distinctive experimental elements of previous releases. In short, it's a banger.

We first talked about Northerners Mammal Club in October 2010, followed by our excitement over their 'Au' EP last April. 'Otter' still stands out as one of my favourite tracks of 2011. Anyway, they've returned with a wonderfully ethereal slice of experimental pop, which you can listen to below.

Continuing the seemingly neverending saga of In The City festival band posts, I present Mammal Club from "oop North". I initially thought they formed in early 2009, adding former Yourcodenameis:Milo guitarist Adam Hiles to their ranks then. BUT NO. He was around long before and they simply changed names from The Eye Jab, who were on the XL imprint Salvia.

Anyway, enough of my investigative journalism. Time for some lazy journalism. Arguably, not even journalism at all. Andrew Marr certainly doesn't think so.
